The newly-formed volunteer group, the Friends Of Castletown Station will have their first working meeting at the station tomorrow morning, Saturday 12th November from 9.00am. The group has been formed by Carol Quine, a member of Castletown Commissioners, and seasonal station master Grant Taylor and have so far achieved a number of small improvements to the station which it is hoped can be built upon. Already the coal fire in the waiting room has been reinstated for the first time in many years, proving advantageous with the longer season running into the winter months, and the original station ticket hatch has been unsealed, recreating another small part of the original workings of the station. The group intends to refurbish the platform benches over the winter months, and have already re-floored the booking hall and office in a style more symathetic with the historic building's ambience. The group hope to work to complement the full time staff who are kept busy with the routine maintenence along the line and often are unable to dedicate the time to finishing touches. The working party will meet in the morning to discuss other planned activities and hopefully make a start on some of the plans already made; new faces are always welcome and the group are delighted to be affiliated to the Supporters' Association whose members are also taking an active role in the project. The group welcome any assistance and have already been provided with some historical photographs and documentation relating to the station - but are always in need of more! To contact them you can call the station on +44 (0) 1624 822275 or e-mail
