The weekend of 6th - 8th November saw visitors from mainland-based railwayss take part in a three-day event on the island's railways; the event was organised by the Supporters' Association with the kind co-operation of the railway's management and saw over 100 people arrive on the island on the evening of Thursday 6th for a sign-in session at Douglas Station where they were each presented with a welcome pack containing an itinerary for the period as well as a draft of the new Travellers' Companion for the railway, written and compiled by acting secretary Grant Taylor. The latest issue of Manx Steam Railway News (hot off the press!) completed the pack.
The events began "proper" the following morning with a return trip to Ramsey by Manx Electric Railway on winter saloons 19 and 22, the latter hauling winter trailer 58. The retrun trip stopped off at Laxey Station for lunch, and was followed by a short trip on the Snaefell Mountain Railway and rare chance to see inside the sub-station and new car sheds at Laxey, before returning to Derby Castle for a free evening in the island's capital.
Saturday 7th saw No. 10 G.H. Wood hauling a five-coach train to Port Erin where a buffet lunch was laid on at the Falcon's Nest close by the station. Again, access was available to the railway museum, engine shed, station building and the carraige shed. Footplate rides within the environs of the station yard before the return trip to Douglas where the workshops, running shed, carriage shed and paint shop were all open for inspection for the afternoon. No. 10 was again in service for a 6.00pm departure to Ballasalla Station for the annual meal, held at the Whitestone Inn where, after the food, railways' manager Ian Longworth made a speech.
The weekend continued with a trip to Laxey on Sunday 8th aboard 1949 vintage Road Services P.D.2 bus (with remaining attendees travelling on one of the new Bus Vannin fleet of Volvos) where the Great Laxey Mines Railway was open, with locomotives Bee and battery engine Wasp in service; the return journey stopped off at Groudle Glen where the railway provided a two-train service with opportunities to ride behind all servicable locomotives. The railway also provided a buffet and the excellent weather made the event a perfect close to the weekend's activities. All in all the weekend proved to be an excellent piece of P.R. for the island's railways.
