The island will play host to the annual staff gathering of narrow gauge railway staff next month when over 120 will attend events held over the weekend of 6th to 8th November. The event, which is held in one of five different venues at the end of each season, will see members of staff from the Ffestiniog Railway, Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, Tallylyn Railway and various other lines come to the island for a weekend of rail-based events.
The event has been organised by the Supporters' Association with the kind co-operation of the management of Isle of Man Railways and will include a return trip to Ramsey on the Manx Electric Railway, to the mid-way point of The Bungalow on the Snaefell Mountain Railway and of course the obligatory run to Port Erin on the Isle of Man Railway. Also included will be an evening trip to Ballasalla for the annual meal which will be held in the nearby Whitestone Inn.
Trips have also been arranged, by vintage bus to the Great Laxey Mines Railway and (of course!) our own Groudle Glen Railway which will be the venue for a buffet lunch at the outer terminus at Sea Lion Rocks. The Supporters' Association would like to place on record their thanks to the management of the railway for their co-operation and assistance in arranging for this event, and allowing attendees to travel on each of the island's railway systems. We hope to include some photographs of the event on this site at some point in the future.
