Over the course of the summer, during the months of July and August much remedial work has been carried out to the exterior of Douglas Station; this has included the re-painting of the porters’ office (more recently souvenir shop and stores) and toilet block in a pleasant maroon and cream scheme, as well as the ticket inspection hut at the end of the platform which has been similarly treated to great effect as our photograph shows. To the side of the station that leads to the main entrance steps a wooden gate has been installed to restrict vehicular access to the platform area and this has been painted white in keeping with its surroundings. The main station building remains untouched for the time being but the station now has a rather smarter appearance than it did previously. Similar improvements have been carried out at Port Soderick with the two station waiting shelters and staff hut being painted into maroon and cream, and all station picket fences receiving much needed attention.
