Since their introduction a couple of years ago, the Manx National Week headboards carried by service locomotives to mark the island's national day on 5th July have been very popular and further raised awareness of the railways; this year however saw a contribution to the national day from slightly further afield, courtesy of our good friends on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway in Cumbria. Association member Tom Sinden was lucky enough to travel the 15" guage line on Tynwald Day and was surprised to see that diesel locomotive "Douglas Ferreira" (named after the late General Manager of the line) and built in 2005 for the line) sported a three legs flag atop its cab roof. Our photograph, provided by Tom, captures the loco at the head of its train departing Dalegarth Station on 5th July.
