Home News 2009 Season Under Way & A Busy Easter

The season started on Monday 6th April 2009 with the usual two-train operation; No. 10 G.H.Wood is the Douglas-based engine, whilst No. 13 Kissack started as the south-based locomotive.  Being the school break for Easter the trains have been well patronised with a number of locals travelling in the first couple of days.  The service will now operate daily until the end of September when the one-train service commences; in addition to this, there will be commuter trains in practice week and T.T. race week again this year.  For complete timetable details please refer to the front page of this site.  Our photograph shows No. 13 Kissack passing Meary Veg between Port Soderick and Santon, on the 12.20pm train from Douglas to Port Erin on Tuesday 7th April, the second day of the season.  With thanks to Howard Bishop for the use of the image.

Once again proving popular with the locals during the Easter Break, the railway enjoyed a busy weekend in glorious weather for the time of year, with most trains from Friday-Monday consisting of the maximum of six coaches, largely running full.  Again Nos. 10 and 13 were the service engines whilst No. 12 was in light steam at Douglas Station in case of need.  The good numbers travelling continued into the rest of the week with the schoolchilden still being on holiday until 19th April.
