After the Department of Tourism & Leisure recently backed out of their £50,000.00 support for the Manx Transport Trust’s proposed museum at Jurby, it looks like this museum in may be back on track after the Department of Local Government and Environment has agreed to rent a to the Department of Transport and Leisure for a small fee. The report from the BBC goes on to say:-
“...the move follows talks involving the chief minister and the ministers for tourism and leisure, local government and the environment, and trade and industry. Martyn Quayle MHK, transport and leisure minister, said: "When I met with the directors of Manx Transport Trust they were very understanding of the financial pressures which we faced. We have always supported the principle of a Manx Transport Museum but our proposed contribution of £50,000 had become unaffordable. I am delighted therefore, that the public will now have access to previously unseen historic vehicles including some loaned by my department."
Whilst this will secure covered storage for a number of privately and department-owned buses it is not clear at this stage which other items of stock currently stored will be transported to this location, and when this will happen. We are to assume, with the lease shortly expiring on the bus garage, that this will be soon. Whether or not any I.M.R. stock will be moved to Jurby remains to be seem but it seems unlikely. A list of the I.M.R. items currently languishing in Homefield Garage will appear in the next issue of Manx Steam Railway News, due early-February.
