Home St. John's Junction

From its humble beginnings as a simple wayside station upon the arrival of the Peel Line in 1873 the stopping place at St. John's in the centre of the island expanded over time to become the railway's equivalent of Clapham Junction and was a mecca for enthusiasts.  From its beginnings, to the arrival of the nearby station of the Manx Northern Railway in 1879, followed by the Foxdale Railway in 1880, the station sprawled over a significant site in this small village.  By the time the Isle of Man Railway Co., took over the operations in 1904 the station had expanded to mammoth proportions for such a relatively small railway, a layout that was largely retained until the station closed for good on 9th September 1968.  Please navigate around these pages by clicking on one of the articles below that will lead you around the station and its environs:-
