Seeing use as a through coach being used on connecting services to Douglas Station, the middle wheelset of this coach collapsed between Union Mills and Crosby Station in 1904 thereby cemeting further the Railway Company's low opinion of the reliability of the six-wheeled stock.  This made it the first of the class to succumb to other uses, immediately upon the merger with the Railway Company in 1905 it was removed from the frames (which were broken up) and served as a grounded crew mess hut at Douglas Station (it is for this reason that no "N" prefix I.M.R. number was ever allocated to it).  It is a familiar sight on many period photographs, and was replaced by sister coach N.41 in 1964, at which time it was broken up.
