Kirk Michael station building was constructed in the house style of the Manx Northern Railway, sourced from local pink sandstone and remains in use today as a fire station; the nearby goods shed has also been converted to house the village's fire engine. It was once a very busy station, serving the railway-owned and operated Glen Wyllin which will be remembered by generations of local children as a popular Sunday School picnic destination. The station was provided with a passing loop, cattle sidings and a water tower on the southern side of the road which bissects it, for which locomotives detatched from their trains to access. From the station there was a lineside fenced footpath that accessed the nearly glen where attractions included merry-go-round, motor boats and childrens' playground. Being located in the parish of Michael, this station sometimes appears in timetables without the "Kirk" prefix, and on some publicity material. The station namesboards however always carried the name in full.
