To tie in with the proposed launch of this very site, at the beginning of 2008 new recruitment posters and leaflets for the Supporters' Association were drawn up and displayed at all railway stations.  These pieces of advertising utilised a pale yellow background with distinctive new logo for the group, hitherto only used on certain pieces of internal stationary.  Prior to the advent of this initiative membership forms had been available at key stations along the line, and some posters harking back to the heady days of the 1990s events had survived but needed re-vamping.  Since its inception back in 1966 the lettering of the title had traditionally appeared in green and with has been retained with an update in typeface and incorporating the Railway Company crest which now appears on all literature and on this site.

The new poster was an all-colour affair, designed by magazine editor Grant Taylor and featured a three-quarter view of No. 10 G.H Wood at Douglas Station as well as reproduction front covers of four recent editions of Manx Steam Railway News and membership secretary details.  The slogan "Commited To The Continued Operation Of This Unique Railway" was also first adoped at this time; the membership forms were in a similar style, with inside pages detailing a summary history of the group as well as a short list of the more recent projects that had come to fruition, such as the return of No. 4 Loch after the "Unloch Your Cash" appeal, and the new side tanks for Caledonia and the cosmetic restoration of No. 6 Peveril in 1994.

It is encouraging to note that since this initiative was taken membership numbers have increased, and of course this site was shortly afterwards launched, having since been popular with visitors, and updated at regular intervals.  Regular visits to all stations ensure that torn or lost posters are replaced and plastic racks to hold membership forms affixed to notice boards at some stations are replenished be locally-based members throughout the season.

We always welcome further ideas to raise the public profile of the group and encourage feedback, be it positive or negative, via the contacts page of this site.  Future initiatives will be posted to this site as and when they are about to happen.
