A LOOK AROUND DOUGLAS YARD, MAY 1966 By Michael Bishop |

The ex-County Donegal railcars in the workshops at Douglas Station on 28th May 1966, the only year in the railway's history when no services have operated.

The signal box and original carriage shed, dating from 1892 and 1893 respectively, and one of the many semaphore signals that graced the large yard.

The sorry sight that met the photographer on 27th May 1966 when no trains had run since September the previous year. Note the coaling platforms.
"A narrow gauge terminus second to none" as it was once described, lays silent as it would until 3rd June the following year when re-opening day took place.
The station approach as it was in 1966; although the trains did not run the Road Services still operated their offices from here so there was still some activity.

An overview of the yard looking from beside the signal box shows the goods shed on the right with some goods stock including a G van and some wagons in front ot it.
