The non-passenger stock on the railway used a continuation of the prefix lettering system with the last letter being allocated to passenger stock being "F"; following on from this, the first class introduced were the "G" vans but certain letters were not utilised as allocations continued. Whilst the final letter to be allocated (as late as 1967 when the railway was re-opened) was "R" used on the ex-"pairs" coach underframe runners. However, not all letters in between were granted classes of vehicle, the ones not used were "I", "J", "O", "P" and "Q". Additionally, "N" was used on ex-Manx Northern Railway stock only, presumably signifying the north of the title. Similarly, a small "r" prefix was included on stock inherited from the north line. What follows is a selection of articles on each class of vehicle, with summary histories, photographs and available details for each vehicle of the class. Whilst exhaustive, this section aims to account for every major item of non-passenger rolling stock, but some other items appear in the miscellaneous section. |
