This van, the final one of the class to be constructed, was built in-house in the railway's workshops using components of the chassis of an 1873 four-wheeled brake van.  Having been through piped with vacuum equipment to operate between the ex-County Donegal railcars in 1962 this van was reprieved from the cutters' torch in 1974 when much redundant stock was lost in the Ballasalla Bonfire at that time.  Following this ir was used latterly by the permanent way department and fitted with folding platforms for tree-lopping purposes as the accompanying image shows.  It was withdrawn in poor condition in 1990 and stored in the siding at Ballasalla Station until the track was relaid in 2001 at which time the van was moved into storage at Port Erin Station.  Our view shows the van in open storage in the bay platfrom at Port Erin in June 2004 and also shows the windows that were added to the bulkhead when the van was used as a portable mess room during winter works.  Although now in very poor condition the Supporters' Association have in the past considered its restoration either for display purposes or into its original form as a four-wheeled brake van.
