| One of the original pieces of stock supplied to the new Manx Northern Railway in 1879, this van although originally M.N.R. No. 16 was renumbered to be their No. 20 prior to amalgamation in 1905. It was supposedly withdrawn in 1895 but was noted as "being repainted in new livery by 1899" (!) This vehicle was noted by the I.M.R. as running goods trains and was withdrawn 1908 but later reinstated for use as part of a P.W. train. Finally withdrawn in 1911, the body was used as a P.W. store behind the carriage shed at Douglas Station. It retained its ducket windows to end, and was lost in 1974; it is noteworthy that this vehicle had its duckets covered by the extended roof from the main body, as was common for Manx Northern vans of this type. Dating from the spring of 1968 the accompanying image from Ray Hulock shows this van in the goods yard at Douglas Station. |
