Built in 1898 at the same time as the locomotive sheds which run parallel, the workshops lie at the end of the station platform and are constructed of local stone. The building is to the left as you view from the platform's edge and consists of a single-road workshop complete with inspection and maintenance pit, offices and equipment. The buildings have been much modified over the years, one noticable addition being the brick-built chief engineers' office to the left of the workshops, added in the early part of the last century and still used for this purpose today. To the rear of the workshops proper lies the blacksmiths room, and through this was once the treasure trove that formed the railway's stores department; latterly this area has been cleared and now forms a workshop staff mess area complete with frosted glass windows and incorporating several features found in the stores during clearing.
