Home Douglas Terminus Administration Block (1900s)

Now given over to the island's Customs & Excise department and re-named "Customs House" this building once housed the directors' officed, station bar, administration, stores and the general manager's office.  The distinctive round tower which became known as "Sheard's Window" overlooks the station and forms part of the customs facilities today, once being part of the expansive managers' office.  The building is constructed of Ruabon brick and is in the same style as the adjacent station building, and joined by an archway between the two which for many years formed the vehicular access to the site until the demolition of the goods yards, sheds and station canopies immediately after nationalisation in 1978.  It is regrettable that the building is no longer in railway hands but it still very much forms part of the grand entrance to the station today.
