Builder: Wickham Of Ware
Works No.: 7442
Model: Type 27, Mk. III
Year: 1956
Status: Stored
The second of the railway's two people carriers has not been used in service for a number of years having been stored until 1999 in the original carriage shed at Douglas Station until it was demolished. It was then relocated to the infill shed which was created at the same time be roofing over the gap between the running shed and plant shop.
.
It was moved by road in May 2011 and is currently in store out of working order in the goods shed at Castletown Station with the legend I.M.R. No. 2 in crudely painted yellow lettering on its side panel although this is not an official fleet number, having been acquired during its sojourn in the old carriage shed. The bodywork of the vehicle carries a dull maroon finish whilst the end panels feature black and yellow chevrons.
.
There has been talk of overhauling the unit in the recent past but for the time being it remains in storage and is slightly larger than the operational unit. The hypothetical fleet number of No. 22 is included here though the unit has never carried this in reality. Taking into account other members of the fleet this would logically be the consecutive numbering within the fleet. No. 21 is omitted, although not used it has been allocated to a new diesel unit which was proposed in 2010 and has yet to be commissioned.
