Initial issues of our journal came in the form of a foolscap newsletter and were a very homespun affair in the days prior to today's sophisticated printing procedures. This header, taken from the sixth issue was the "standard" header in the early days before the newsletter took its more familiar look. It was called Steam Railway News for a number of years (the Manx prefix only being added when a national magazine took the shorter title in 1986). Early issues like this were individually hand-typed which seems remarkable in the twenty-first century, but the membership at this time was a close-knit group of enthusiasts largely island-based.
As time permits, sections from older issues such as this will be reproduced in the Archive Articles section of this website; some early articles already appear here and it is our intention to expand this section to provide an invaluable historical archive for our visitors. Needless to say, this is an exhaustive task, relying largely upon having free time to re-type the articles onto the site directly from the original manuscripts. Early feedback indicates this to be a worthwhile task however to it will develop over time. If you feel you could assist us please contact
